Kerry County Council and the OPW are developing a flood relief scheme for Kenmare. It is at Stage 1 (scheme development and preliminary design), which runs to early 2027; no preferred option has been chosen yet. Over summer and autumn 2026 there will be ground investigation boreholes at Gortamullen, north of town, plus environmental, heritage, landscape and noise surveys.
