Kenmare Lace

The needlepoint lace tradition started by the Poor Clare sisters in the 1860s.

Kenmare lace began at the Poor Clare convent in the 1860s as work for local girls during hard times, with the nun Mary Frances Cusack among its early champions. It became known worldwide. The tradition is celebrated by the Kenmare Lace Festival.
